Inception IN

MONTREAL

“Sure, at first glance, the Montreal four-man pack may seem like an unnerving bunch of long-haired hoods, but behind all the hair exist four consummate musicians, serious in their craft, their musicianship.”

From a 2009 Nightlife article, Montreal

First album

release

“Their debut Hello Master was amazing. What I liked in particular about the band was vocalist Mikey Heppner. His voice had that classic rock n roll sneer with a hint of soul. It really made them stand out.”

major label

contract

“RCA Records noticed the group and signed them in January 2006, becoming their label for all territories outside of Canada, remastering Hello Master and releasing it internationally.”

Guitar

Hero III

“The single “Lay Down” was included in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, which elevated the band’s profile drastically. Enthusiastic about the success of that game, Heppner has stated he believes Guitar Hero and such games to be perfectly valid ways of finding new music.”

second album

release

“On every track the band remains hungry, fierce and focused throughout with their signature melodic elements still in check but this time around they also scale to new lofty heights and let their progressive rock and hard psych tendencies add to the dynamics, density and drama.”

mysterious

ending

“They just disappeared. No more albums, no more new songs, no more tours. They had some shows scheduled in 2011 that were canceled and in 2012 they even teased an upcoming performance that was to be their first in a year. That was also suddenly canceled for reason unknown.”

HAPPENED TO

here’s the deal

If you’re someone who enjoys good heavy rock music, and you’ve never heard of those guys, you’re missing out. At least that’s my opinion. Priestess is one of my all time favorite bands, and part of the best music to ever come out of Montreal — Hands down.

the future looked promising

so what happened?

“there’s certainly been sufficient long-hair tossing, guitar-as-ax wielding, visible tattoos, twin guitar solos, and general heavy peacock riffage to qualify Priestess as a Second Coming of some primal breed of rock.”

“It’s amazing how much awesome music exists in Montreal with all the different scenes, and we have the worst radio in Canada. Radio does not mirror the city, we know that all too well. we really got a lot of luck radio-wise and that makes a big difference.”
